African swine fever has been around for over a century. It’s a deadly and HIGHLY contagious disease that can be devastating to not just one operation but the world as well. ASF continues to spread throughout the world and, in 2021, was detected in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. This close proximity means that operations in the United States are especially vulnerable to becoming infected with the disease.
Currently, there’s no vaccine to protect against African swine fever, and infected animals face a 100% guaranteed mortality rate. So, what can you do to protect yourself and your operation? There are three most common sources of transmission to be cognizant of: direct contact, indirect transmission, and insect-borne transmission.
ASFGuard insurance indemnifies your expected revenues and operating expenses if an ASF outbreak is detected at your facility, giving you financial support to repopulate and reestablish your flows.
If ASF is detected at your operation, a government-mandated cull order will be issued. However, under ASFGuard, payments will begin immediately to cover your expected revenue and operating expenses.
Payments are based on your operation’s risk profile and the sum insured. For the majority of producers, this is between $0.25 and $0.48 per head.
Stockguard’s clear trigger and payment structure ensures a fast response in the event of an outbreak.
Policy periods are typically 12 months, with coverage duration options available from 3 to 12 months, with indemnity guaranteed for a minimum of 3 months.
Coverage is available for pig owners and contract growers, at any point in the life cycle.
